Aspen Ridge Elementary
is Starting Up Safe!
Welcome to the Aspen Ridge School! We believe a close partnership with our families and community is critical to the success of our students. The staff has worked really hard to get the school ready and we are excited for the new school year!
Watch our video above to hear from Principal Chris Marana on how things are going, what the school looks like, and what it's like for the students.
Back to School:
What will it look like?
Parents who transport their students to and from school will be required to remain in their vehicles during arrival and departure times. (Exceptions will be made for our PreK and Kindergarten students. Information will be available from Elementary Principal Chris Marana. Exceptions will also be made for special education students with arrangements made through Special Education Coordinator Nate Longton.) A traffic flow diagram is available for download above.
Use of hand sanitizer before entering a bus. The bus driver, staff, and all students in grades PreK-12th Grade, if medically feasible, must wear facial coverings while on the bus. We are cleaning and disinfecting transportation vehicles before and after every transit route.
Libraries, computer labs, arts, and other hands-on classrooms undergo cleaning after every class period. Student desks are wiped down with either an EPA-approved disinfectant or diluted bleach solution after every class period. We are teaching and reinforce proper handwashing techniques and require students to wash their hands or use hand sanitizer after changing any classroom.
We ask that visitors only come to the school for emergency or exigent circumstances (circumstances that are truly pressing or demanding). A visitor will be required to wait in the respective office, office vestibule, or in their personal vehicle until a student is called to the office from class.
We provide an abundance of soap, hand sanitizer, and other personal care items for staff and students to wash their hands and make sure to teach proper handwashing techniques. We routinely clean every common area throughout the day and are changing around our custodial hours to have more staff available for immediate cleaning duties during the school day. Common areas are cleaned every four hours or less, classrooms are cleaned after every class period. We will also be cleaning our buildings and equipment again after school hours.
It is important for us to have updated contact information so we can communicate school policies and updates to families. If your address, phone number, email address, etc. have changed in the past year, please double-check with the school that our records are accurate.
Testing & Isolation
Symptomatic students and staff sent home from school will be kept home until they have tested negative for COVID-19, have completely recovered, or have been released from isolation according to CDC guidelines.
Staff who develop a fever or become ill with COVID-19 symptoms at school will wear a mask and be transported for off-site testing and quarantining protocols.
Health Screenings Before School
We are asking all parents and guardians to self-assess their students each morning prior to school. If a student has a fever of 100.4 degrees Fahrenheit or higher or is sick in any way, that student is to stay home.
Distant Learning Due to Closure Expectations
If the region is moved to Phase 1, 2, or 3 of the MI Safe Start Plan, we will offer electronic and hard-copy options for distance learning. We will also partner with Northern Michigan University to continue to offer distance options.
Teachers/Staff will be expected to make weekly contact with students and have two-way communication. This may be done through the use of technology or through weekly phone calls or texts.
We will require all PreK – 12th Grade students and all employees to wear masks while indoors. This includes buses, classrooms, hallways, etc. There will be breaks throughout the day for students and staff to remove their masks. (Mask exceptions will be made for those with a written excuse from a licensed doctor.) Masks will be available for those who do not have access to their own.
Ever-Changing Guidelines and Recommendations
Please stay tuned for more outreach from your students’ building principal and their teachers. We will take good care of our community’s kids and each other. Please reach out when you need help, give others help when you can, and stick together through all of this. We will make it.
